St. Maarten St. Martin Accommodations

The choices are almost unlimited but personal taste, location and of course, affordability would be the major factors.

St. Maarten is a tourist island. It has no other real industries. St. Maartener’s do not grow wheat, raise cattle or manufacture for export. The sole industry on both sides of the island is tourism and all businesses on the island are related to the tourism sector. Because of this, accommodations are many, from Hotels to Resorts to Villas & Condos to Guesthouses to Timeshares. Lots of them and they’re all over so take your choice.

Hotels and Timeshares are ordinarily the first options looked at. Most of the major Hotels, such as Pelican (now Simpson Bay Resort), Maho, Divi, Oyster Bay, Caravanserai, Westin, Flamingo, Royal Palm and Atrium all have Timeshare adjuncts and were, in fact, built with Timeshare in mind. What that means for the vacationer is that all rental units are suites from Studio to 3 Bedroom. All of the above mentioned are located either directly on or steps from the beach. Is this a major factor? For those who don’t like to move around a lot the answer would be yes but the St. Maarten vacation is not about being "hotel-bound" like in Jamaica. It’s a “move-around” vacation where 37 wonderful beaches must be visited ( not all, of course, but certainly a good number of them ).

St. Maarten, St. Martin is also known for its restaurants, the best of which are not going to be at your hotel. Yet another reason for being mobile is the fabulous shopping. Well that’s all over but the main centers are Philipsburg, Capital of the Dutch Side ( best bet for Jewelry ) and Marigot, Capital of the French Side ( best bet for Clothing and Cosmetics and Fragrances and Souvenirs ).


My personal favorites would be based primarily on convenience of location. I would want to be in the Simpson Bay area as that’s the most centrally located and nearest to nighttime entertainment and many restaurants. Those resorts would be Flamingo, Royal Palm, Atrium and Pelican, all on the beach and near to everything. This does not exclude other beautiful resorts. St. Maarten, St. Martin is only a 37 sq. mi. island so nothing is too far away. You can probably drive around it, traffic permitting, in an hour.



Villa rentals are also recommended. Many people think that renting a Villa may be too pricey but not when you look at the numbers. Staying at the better hotels can be $200 per night for a Studio and even higher while a Villa can service 3 to 4 couples, have consummate luxury and of course, private pools.
